Implementing Social-Emotional Wellness

Overview – The Implementing Social Emotional Wellness Micro-Credential requires the practitioner demonstrates proficiency of all the essential outcomes and the research-based subskills defined in the details. These include proficiency in the following: the ability to cultivate a commitment and support to social and emotional wellness; establish systems for self-assessment and data collection on student, staff, and community wellness to identify needs and wellness resources; establish classroom, school-wide and community social and emotional (SEL) programs; and provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and a monitoring process to establish best practice in implementing social and emotional wellness. “Today’s schools are increasingly multicultural and multilingual with students from diverse social and economic backgrounds. Educators and community agencies serve students with different motivation for engaging in learning, behaving positively, and performing academically. Social and emotional learning (SEL) provides a foundation for safe and positive learning, and enhances students’ ability to succeed in school, careers, and life” (Weissberg, 2016).

Essential Outcomes – Implementing Social Emotional Wellness includes the following four identified essential outcomes:

  1. Cultivate a commitment and facilitate support for social and emotional wellness.
  2. Institute systems for student, staff, and community self-assessment and evaluation of wellness.
  3. Establish classroom, school wide and community social and emotional programs.
  4. Provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and a monitoring process to implement and embed best practices for social and emotional wellness.

Requirements

Part 1. Overview Questions

Develop a responsive narrative that answers the following questions (1,000-word minimum):

  1. What supports have you implemented, or communications have you shared to encourage a commitment to social and emotional wellness with your school and stakeholders?
  2. What systems and policies are in place for staff, students and your community to identify needs and provide resources?
  3. What evidence of implementing school-wide or community social and emotional programs have you illustrated?
  4. What process have you used for developing and assessing a plan and strategies that ensure alignment of SEL programs, including timelines, evaluation and assessment strategies, and a monitoring process?

Part 2. Skill Demonstration Product with Self-Analysis

Develop an artifact portfolio that captures the essential outcomes for the Implementing Social Emotional Wellness Micro-Credential and complete the evidence self-analysis.

For each EO detail you will be required to reference an uploaded artifact(s) and guide the assessor to the specific evidence (page number, video time stamp, etc.) within the uploaded artifact(s). An explanation of how the evidence demonstrates proficiency of the outcome detail is also required. The practitioner must clearly and compellingly demonstrate proficiency of every detail under each essential outcome.

Part 3. Reflection & Application

Provide specific examples of how you applied all components of the essential outcomes. This could include a description of the process used to implement the social and emotional curriculum, evidence from your ongoing communications about the program, and evidence based SEL strategies that have been incorporated into current curriculum and learning environment. This could also include data representing the outcome of implementation of a social and emotional program or implementation strategies and timelines. Include a reflection about the impact of these skills on your professional practice, learning environment, and how you will continue to apply it in the future.
