Leading a Culture of Safety

OverviewLeading a Culture of Safety requires the practitioner to demonstrate proficiency of all the essential outcomes and the research-based subskills defined in the details. These include the abilities to: foster respectful, trusting, and caring relationships throughout the school community; ensures all stakeholders a safe environment free of violence, bullying, and harassment; provide supportive educational settings that address social, emotional, and behavioral needs; and provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and a monitoring process to establish a culture focused on the safety of all stakeholders.

Essential OutcomesLeading a Culture of Safety includes the following four identified essential outcomes:

  1. Fosters respectful, trusting, and caring relationships throughout the school community.
  2. Ensures all stakeholders a safe environment free of violence, bullying, and harassment.
  3. Provide supportive educational settings that address social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  4. Provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and a monitoring process to establish a culture focused on the safety of all stakeholders.

Requirements

Part 1. Overview Questions

Develop a responsive narrative that answers the following questions (1,000-word minimum):

  1. How would you describe the process you used to evaluate the current climate of your school/district in reflection of best practice?
  2. How would you describe the process you used to analyze current policies, procedures, and systems your school/district adopted to ensure best practice in safe school climates?
  3. How would you describe the process you used adopt new policy, procedures, or systems in your school/district to improve safe school climate?
  4. How would you describe the process you used to evaluate, monitor, and implement system change to ensure best practice of school climate is adhered to?
  5. How would you describe the process you used to train and support your staff on best practices of a safe school climate?

Part 2. Skill Demonstration Product with Self-Analysis

Develop an artifact portfolio that captures the essential outcomes for the Leading a Culture of Safety Micro-Credential and complete the evidence self-analysis.

For each EO detail you will be required to reference an uploaded artifact(s) and guide the assessor to the specific evidence (page number, video time stamp, etc.) within the uploaded artifact(s). An explanation of how the evidence demonstrates proficiency of the outcome detail is also required. The practitioner must clearly and compellingly demonstrate proficiency of every detail under each essential outcome.

Part 3. Reflection & Application

Submit, in writing, a summary of your experience of the Leading a Culture of Safety Micro-Credential (500-word minimum) to highlight and provide specific examples of how you applied the four components of the Leading a Culture of Safety Micro-Credential. This could include topics covered and how you have used the threat assessment in your school/district and the results of utilizing the adopted system. Include a reflection about the impact of this skill on your professional practice and how you will continue to apply it in the future.
