Retaining and Developing Staff

Overview – The Retaining and Developing Staff Micro-Credential requires the practitioner to demonstrate proficiency of all the essential outcomes and the research-based subskills defined in the details. These include the practitioner’s ability to foster a professional culture that creates trust and promotes adult learning, risk taking, and collaboration; engage teachers to collaboratively design and implement a program of professional learning; ensure teachers and staff continually develop and deepen the knowledge and skills needed to address the continually changing needs of the school community; and provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and monitoring process to establish best practice in retaining and developing staff for organizational improvement. The participant’s skill and ability to focus on recruiting, retaining, and ensuring accountability of high-quality staff is essential. Further, their capacity to grow and develop essential skills personally and for all stakeholders to support and provide high-quality, student-focused learning is vital (NASSP, 2018).

Essential OutcomesRetaining and Developing Staff includes the following identified essential outcomes:

  1. Foster a professional culture that creates trust and promotes adult learning, risk taking, and collaboration.
  2. Engage teachers to collaboratively design and implement a program of professional learning.
  3. Ensure teachers and staff continually develop and deepen the knowledge and skills needed to address the continually changing needs of the school community.
  4. Provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and monitoring process to establish best practice in retaining and developing staff for organizational improvement.

Requirements

Part 1. Overview Questions

Develop a responsive narrative that answers the following questions (1,000-word minimum):

  1. What steps have you have taken to foster a professional culture that creates trust and promotes adult learning, risk taking, and collaboration? Please provide specific examples that demonstrate the great work you and your team are doing.
  2. Articulate the process you use to engage teachers to collaboratively design and implement a program of professional learning.
  3. How do you determine the knowledge and skills which need to be developed to address the continually changing needs of the school community?
  4. What you do to measure effectiveness of what you are doing and the steps you take to plan for future success?

Part 2. Skill Demonstration Product with Self-Analysis

Develop an artifact portfolio that captures the essential outcomes for the Retaining and Developing Staff Micro-Credential and complete the evidence self-analysis.

For each EO detail you will be required to reference and uploaded artifact(s) and guide the assessor to the specific evidence (page number, video time stamp, etc.) within the uploaded artifact(s). An explanation of how the evidence demonstrates proficiency of the outcome detail is also required. The practitioner must clearly and compellingly demonstrate proficiency of every detail under each essential outcome.

Part 3. Reflection & Application

Submit, in writing, a summary of your experience of Retaining and Developing Staff (500-word minimum). Provide specific examples of how you applied all components of the essential outcomes. This could include topics covered and a description of where you have found your individual strengths and areas for potential improvement as it pertains to the Essential Outcomes listed below:

  1. Foster a professional culture that creates trust and promotes adult learning, risk taking, and collaboration.
  2. Engage teachers to collaboratively design and implement a program of professional learning.
  3. Ensure teachers and staff continually develop and deepen the knowledge and skills needed to address the continually changing needs of the school community.
  4. Provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, evaluation, and monitoring process to establish best practice in retaining and developing staff for organizational improvement.
