Illinois Mandated and Recommended Training

Ed Leaders Network provides state-mandated training for Illinois educators. This training is provided at no cost to public school educators in Illinois through a partnership between the Illinois Principals Association and the Illinois State Board of Education.

State mandated trainings for the 2025-2026 school year are now available on Ed Leaders Network. You WILL NOT see (2025-2026) in the title since the state has moved to a 5-year cycle for many of the courses. Things to remember:

  • Each course will now have an expiration date based on the individual's previous completion date. Users will receive an email notification one month before its expiration date and on the day of expiration.
  • Returning users may log in and begin completing courses early. On the My Learning page, switch to "List View" in the top right and scroll to completed courses and programs to find the expiration dates underneath each title. Click the three dots on the right side to re-enroll into the course. Future notifications will be based on the most recent completion date for each course. Watch this video tutorial to learn more.
  • New staff will need to be assigned the appropriate training program or may self-enroll through the Learning Library.
  • We have identified an inconsistency in the School Code related to training on Responding to Child Sexual Abuse and Grooming (Erin’s Law). While prior legislation intended to shift this requirement to a five-year cycle, the statutory language was not updated and still mandates annual completion by January 31. The expiration date for the course in ELN has been changed from 5 years to 1 year for anyone completing the course after August 14, 2025. We will pursue a legislative fix during the fall veto session (October 2025) and will provide updates on the outcome as soon as it is known. Until then, the training remains an annual requirement. If you completed it last year, you may re-enroll now for the 2025–2026 school year or wait to see the outcome of the fall veto session before completing it. If the law remains unchanged, be sure to finish the training no later than January 31, 2026, or sooner if required by your district.
