Advocating Personal Wellness

Overview – The Advocating Personal Wellness Micro-Credential requires that the practitioner demonstrates proficiency of all the essential outcomes and the research-based subskills defined in the details. These include the ability to: demonstrate an understanding of fitness concepts, principles, strategies, and individual differences needed to maintain a health-enhancing level of fitness; implement a dynamic process of change and growth that leads to a balanced state overall well-being; establish self-assessment and data collection concerning personal wellness behaviors; and provide a plan with strategies, implementation timelines, and a monitoring process to advocating personal wellness. “Beisser et. al. (2014) implies principals need to be physically active, eat healthy, seek out mentors, collaborate with peers, use a collaborative leadership style, and strengthen a healthier school environment by modeling a healthy lifestyle, as well as practice mindfulness” (Richardson, 2020).

Essential Outcomes – Advocating Personal Wellness includes the following four identified essential outcomes:

  1. Utilize fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to maintain personal physical wellness.
  2. Utilize emotional wellness concepts, principles, and strategies to maintain personal mental wellness.
  3. Implement a dynamic process of change and growth that leads to a balanced state of physical, mental, and social well-being.
  4. Institute practices for self-assessment and data collection concerning personal wellness behaviors.

Requirements

Part 1. Overview Questions

Develop a responsive narrative that answers the following questions (1,000-word minimum):

  1. What processes or procedures have you established to demonstrate your understanding of fitness concepts and personal wellness?
  2. What processes and procedures have you implemented to ensure change and growth within your organization?
  3. What practices for self-assessment and data collection have you implemented to encourage personal wellness?
  4. How have you ensured that a coherent plan, including strategies, timelines, evaluation, and monitoring have been established, including all stakeholders, to grow personal wellness within the organization?

Part 2. Skill Demonstration Product with Self-Analysis

Develop an artifact portfolio that captures the essential outcomes for the Advocating Personal Wellness Micro-Credential and complete the evidence self-analysis. For each EO detail you will be required to reference an uploaded artifact(s) and guide the assessor to the specific evidence (page number, video time stamp, etc.) within the uploaded artifact(s). An explanation of how the evidence demonstrates proficiency of the outcome detail is also required. The practitioner must clearly and compellingly demonstrate proficiency of every detail under each essential outcome.

Part 3. Reflection & Application

Submit, in writing, a summary of your experience of Advocating Personal Wellness (500-word minimum). Provide specific examples of how you applied all components of the essential outcomes. This could include implementation and data collection strategies, a description of the processes created, or a summary of the assessment tools utilized and that changes that were made in light of the data that was collected. This could also include changes in practice that lead to healthier activity, personal wellbeing, and overall wellness. Include a reflection about the impact of these skills on your professional practice and how you will continue to apply them in the future.
